This is a detailed, informative and immensely interesting look at the history of murder and the British obsession with all things murderous from its early days making the headlines to the merchandise that made the mantelpieces of Victorian society. Worsley has been very thorough in her research, packing the book with details and tidbits while still keeping it very readable and very enjoyable. She covers real-life murders and their effect on the communities and societies of the time as well as their lasting effect on the British psyche and our love for gore. Immensely interesting and entertaining.
