Suzanne Collins

Suzanne Collins is an American author of children’s and young adult fiction, best known for the bestselling Hunger Games trilogy. Collins cut her teeth in children’s television with writing credits for various Nickelodeon shows such as Clarissa Explains It All. Ruminations on an urban update of Alice in Wonderland led to the writing of The Underland Chronicles, the first instalment of which, Gregor the Overlander, appeared in 2003. After four more adventures for Gregor, Collins embarked upon the series that would make her name. Aimed at an older demographic than her previous work, 2008’s The Hunger Games is about a dystopian world where children are forced to compete in a deadly tournament. Two more volumes, Catching Fire and Mockingjay, followed as the series received enormous sales and critical acclaim. The trilogy was made into a film franchise in 2012, starring Jennifer Lawrence as the intrepid Katniss Everdeen, and a prequel novel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, was published in 2020.
