Born in Boston, McFadden attended Harvard University where she studied medicine and went on to forge a successful career as a doctor specialising in brain injury. McFadden self-published her first novel in 2013 but it wasn’t until 2019’s The Ex (currently out of print) that she broke into the crime fiction mainstream. Her Housemaid series – about a domestic cleaner who is not all that she appears – has become a bestselling phenomenon. McFadden has also penned a number of standalone thrillers such as The Perfect Son, The Inmate, The Teacher and Never Lie.
