As a life long Ipswich Town fan and a season ticket holder in the Sir Alf Ramsey stand I had to read this book. Football biographies are always interesting, because as a fan one is familiar with the members of the cast, and hearing about the behind the scenes stories makes for a fascinating insight into their lives. But this book takes things to another level. It blows long held negative views about Sir Alf out of the water and exposes those who created the myths. As a youngster when England won the world cup in 1966 and later as a Town supporter I accepted these long held views about him. I even have copies of previous biographies, but this new book makes so much sense and portrays Alf in a completely different light.
The book is thoroughly researched and sources are noted meticulously. It is both thought provoking and entertaining, but it is also slightly sad that many of the observations and conclusions drawn by this author could not have been seen and made much earlier.
A super book.
I knew very little about sir Alf and found it refreshing to read about him and his exploits. The man seemed ahead of his time and was clearly a fantastic football character.
Well researched. Would recommend.
