Khemri is taken from his birth-parents and brought up to become on of ten million princes. All genetically altered and implanted with advanced technology, these princes (male and female) seek to improve their status and ultimately to succeed the Emperor

This story is told by Khemri and starts the day of his investiture when he begins the long and painful process of joining with the Imperial Mind. He slowly becomes aware that not everything is as easy as it seems on his drama shows.

An entertaining and well written coming-of-age story, filled with drama and political intrigue.

Have just finished reading this and it is one of the best books i have read in a while. Am a fan of Nix's but haven't read any of his stuff in a while when i saw this in the library, i am so glad i picked it up as i haven't been able to put it down since! Would definitely recommend!

I will admit I am a Garth nix fan and this is a great new book by a fantastic author. This is a story using the principles of cloning and assuming we can save the thing that is ourselves and transfer into a brand new replica body if the worst happens. This is different but heading towards the greatness of the abhorsen trilogy.I would recommend this book, it's a stand alone book but it could maybe become a series.

I love Garth Nix stories and I loved this space opera that made me laugh, rooting for the MC and turning pages as fast as I could.
I think that the author is an excellent storyteller and this story is humorous and gripping.
Excellent world building and character development, an engrossing and entertaining story.
Highly recommended.
