I am a huge fan of Mark Hodder' s alternative history series but did wonder where he could take Burton and Swinburne following their exploits in Expedition To The Mountains Of The Moon. Where else but back to the beginning!
Burton returns from discovering the source of the Nile anticipating marriage and a new life in Damascus. What he finds is an attempt on his life and a government enthralled by a disembodied spirit!
Not for the faint hearted - or the historical purist - this rousing adventure story is a magnificent mix of gothic horror, boys own action and retro sci fi thrills. To be read by a roaring fire, with a generous brandy and a (very) large pinch of salt.
