This is a fantastic book that should be read by everyone, not just birders. From learning how New Zealand crows remember the scientists who experimented on them (and then take revenge) to learning how millions of migratory birds are trapped each year by the Egyptians, Italians and French to be pickled - including the humble robin - the information provided in this slim volume is invaluable to anyone who cares about the world we live in, and that should be all of us.
If ever the human ego needed a reminder that we are not the superior beings on this planet, this is it.
I loved it; re-read it and would highly recommend this as a gift.
I have now purchased this book three times - twice from a giant we all love to hate - book's cover is a thin grainy paper and the edges and corners rub off very easily. I had hoped this book would be much better from a real bookseller. Unfortunately not. The problem is the cover not being durable enough to survive a cardboard packet. As for the contents of the book - sure it would have been perfect as a gift for a birding friend...
