Biography
In The Beatles, his songwriting partnership with John Lennon – the most successful musical collaboration ever by records sold – resulted in approximately 180 jointly credited songs, which form the majority of the band’s bestselling albums such as A Hard Day’s Night, Help!, Revolver, Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road.
After The Beatles, McCartney collaborated musically with his wife Linda McCartney; in 1971 they formed Wings, and the group recorded seven studio albums together. During his subsequent solo career, McCartney has collaborated with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Elvis Costello and Rihanna, and has written and recorded over forty albums, including Flowers in the Dirt, Flaming Pie and Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. He was knighted in 1997 by Queen Elizabeth II for services to music.
In 2019, McCartney published his first children’s book Hey Grandude! vibrantly Illustrated Kathryn Durst; it was followed by Grandude’s Green Submarine two years later. In 2021, McCartney also announced the publication of The Lyrics – a richly illustrated, intimate self-portrait which traces his life in music from boyhood to the present day through the lyrics to 154 iconic songs and the stories behind them.
