James Fox

James Fox graduated with a starred first in History of Art from the University of Cambridge in 2004 and, two years later, returned to Cambridge to embark on a PhD in art history. Fox specialises in 20th-century art and British art and craft and is currently Director of Studies in History of Art at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, as well as Creative Director of the Hugo Burge Foundation – a charity dedicated to supporting the arts and crafts across Britain. He is also an award-winning broadcaster best known for presenting art history documentaries for the BBC, including the BAFTA-nominated British Masters. His writing has appeared in the Times, the Telegraph and the Independent, among others.

His first book, The World According to Colour, came out in 2021, whilst his second work Craftland (2025) is an immersive exploration of how crafts are interwoven with British national identity that was shortlisted for the Waterstones Book of the Year 2025.
