Born in Swansea but subsequently settling in Cardiff, Aaron embarked on an ill-fated career as a chartered accountant and ended up as an NHS financial manager. In 2009, he left the world of finance to become a freelance cartoonist, and he has contributed to numerous publications such as Private Eye, The New Statesman, The Spectator and The Oldie. In 2024, Aaron signed a seven-book deal with Puffin books following an eight-way auction, and the following year produced the acclaimed picture book Sleep Tight, Disgusting Blob – which was crowned both Best Illustrated Book and Overall Winner of the 2026 Waterstones Children’s Book Prize.
Later the same year saw the publication of his debut graphic novel Unfairies, which became Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month in August 2025 and was also shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. The follow-up, Unfairies: Death by Toad, was released in 2026, as was another picture book entitled Monkeypig. In addition, Aaron has written or illustrated over sixty Welsh language books since 2013, including the 2021 Welsh-language World Book Day title.
