Having filled the posts of copy editor and executive editor at the Washington D.C. newspaper The Hill, Grann was appointed senior editor at the respected American political journal The New Republic in 1996. This led in turn to a job as staff writer at The New Yorker in 2003, where he filed numerous seminal and award-winning pieces of investigative journalism. His first book The Lost City of Z (2009), about the disappearance of the explorer Percy Fawcett in the Amazon, rapidly became a celebrated bestseller and was adapted for the big screen in 2016. Killers of the Flower Moon, Grann’s compelling investigation into the real-life Osage County murders of the 1920s, was published to great acclaim in 2017 and received a cinematic adaptation in 2023, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro. 2023 also saw the release of The Wager, a thrilling account of shipwreck, mutiny and murder in the eighteenth century, which was shortlisted for Waterstones Book of the Year 2023.
