The creator of the global phenomenon that is The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown is one of the world’s most successful authors, credited by TIME magazine - who named him one of the 100 Most Infuential People in the World in 2005 - as ‘keeping the publishing industry afloat’. A childhood fascination with cyphers, puzzles, mythology and religion influenced the direction of Brown’s fiction. His first novel Digital Fortress prompted him to give up a teaching career to focus on writing full-time and his next two novels introduced the iconic character of symbology expert Robert Langdon. However, it was his fourth novel, The Da Vinci Code, that propelled Dan Brown into the spotlight. A combination of literary treasure hunt and high-octane thriller, set over 24 hours, The Da Vinci Code quickly became a global bestseller. The novel remains one of the bestselling books of all time and was later adapted for a hit film starring Tom Hanks in the role of Langdon. Brown has followed this success with hugely popular novels Inferno (2013) and Origin (2017). The sixth much-awaited instalment, The Secret of Secrets, is published in 2025.
