André Aciman is an award-winning Egyptian-American novelist and academic.
Aciman was born to a French-speaking Jewish family in Alexandria. In 1965, following the increasing political tensions, his family left Egypt and moved to Rome, before emigrating permanently to New York in 1968. Aciman studied Comparative Literature, obtaining his BA from Lehman College, and subsequently his MA and PhD from Harvard University.
In 1996, Aciman published his memoir Out of Egypt, which earned widespread critical acclaim. His first novel, Call Me by Your Name, came out in 2007, becoming an international bestseller and the winner of Lambda Literary Award 2007. It was adapted as a film in 2017, with screenplay by James Ivory. Aciman’s debut novel was followed by Eight White Nights (2010), Harvard Square (2013), Enigma Variations (2017) and Find Me (2019) – a much-anticipated sequel to Call Me by Your Name.
