The Wolfson History Prize Winner 2022

It is our great pleasure to confirm Devil-Land by Clare Jackson as the winner of the Wolfson History Prize 2022.

Tracing a path from the Spanish Armada through to the Glorious Revolution via the Civil War and the Republic, Jackson's monumental and highly original account of England's most tumultuous century as seen through the eyes of influential foreign observers is immersive narrative history of the highest order.

‘A masterpiece of historical writing: a gripping book that brings to life the drama of 17th-century England, a time of rebellion, regicide, and civil war.’

David Cannadine, Chair of Judges
