Celebrating 25 Years of the Women's Prize for Fiction

It is our great pleasure to confirm Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie as the winner of the Women’s Prize Winner of Winners.

Following a public vote in 2020, in which readers were invited to choose their favourite book from the 25 winners in the history of the Women’s Prize, Adichie’s soaring epic of colonialism, race and love in civil war-era Nigeria triumphed over works by Zadie Smith, Ann Patchett and Andrea Levy amongst others.

With the award turning twenty five this year, now is the perfect time to get acquainted with the iconic previous winners. From Helen Dunmore’s inaugural win for the war-haunted A Spell of Winter to 2019's victory for Tayari Jones with the starkly powerful An American Marriage, the Women’s Prize for Fiction has recognised and championed some of the finest novels written by women in the last quarter century.
