The author of one of the bestselling manga series of all time, Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto began creating manga as a teenager. Drawing on influences including the Dragon Ball anime series, Akira and The Matrix, Naruto was originally published as a one-shot version in Akamaru Jump Summer in 1997 but it wasn’t until the serialised version of Naruto appeared in 1999 that the work became a major hit. The series ran for fifteen years over 700 chapters, finally ending in 2014. To date it has sold over 113 million copies in Japan alone and has been the source inspiration for various spin-off anime series and films.
Set in the ninja world, Naruto follows the adventures of Naruto Uzumaki, a powerful ninja trainee as he seeks to hone his skills and protect his village, Konohagakure, with the aim of becoming the village leader.
