Connecting your Kindle Paperwhite to WiFi

Your Kindle Paperwhite can connect wirelessly through your home Wi-Fi network, WPA2 Enterprise Wi-Fi networks or places that offer Wi-Fi access, such as Waterstones or your favourite café. Your Kindle Paperwhite automatically detects nearby Wi-Fi networks that broadcast their network name.

1.From the Home screen, tap Menu.

2.Tap Settings, then Wi-Fi Networks

3.You'll see a list of detected Wi-Fi networks. You may have to wait a moment as your Kindle Paperwhite detects networks in range.

4.Tap the name of the network you wish to join. If necessary, enter the Wi-Fi network password. The password is the one used to set up the Wi-Fi network, not your Amazon account password. If you don't know this password, please contact the person who set up the Wi-Fi network.

Once you have successfully connected to a Wi-Fi network, your Kindle Paperwhite will automatically connect to it when it detects a signal from that network.

Register your Kindle Paperwhite

After you've successfully connected your Kindle Paperwhite wirelessly, register your Kindle Paperwhite, from the Home screen, tap the Menu button. Tap Settings, then Registration.

If you already have an Amazon account: Tap this option. Enter the e-mail and password associated with your Amazon account. Tap Register. Your name will appear as the Registered User when registration is complete.

If you do not have an Amazon account: Select this option and follow the onscreen instructions to set up a new account. If you create a new Amazon account, you'll also enter a payment method you'll use when you shop for Kindle content from your device.

Remember, your Kindle device will only recognize the files you've transferred if:

The file is a supported file type.

Files are transferred to the documents folder.

WiFi Troubleshooting

If you are having problems entering a password to connect to your Wi-Fi network, try these troubleshooting steps:

Check your password.

Your Wi-Fi network password is the one used to set up your Wi-Fi network, not your Amazon account password.

If you don't know your Wi-Fi password, contact the person who set up your Wi-Fi network, your Internet service provider, or the manufacturer of your Wi-Fi router for help. Your Wi-Fi password may also be written on the bottom of your Wi-Fi router.

Still can't connect?

Where available, go to the room where the router is located.

Ensure that wireless is enabled by tapping the Menu button and selecting "Turn Wireless On".

Ensure your router is functioning correctly and has an Internet connection. You can verify your router is functioning correctly by checking that other devices can connect via Wi-Fi to your router. If other devices are also unable to connect, try restarting your router or modem by disconnecting the power cord for 30 seconds.

Restart your Kindle Paperwhite. If other devices are able to connect, try restarting your Kindle Paperwhite: from the Home screen, tap Menu, Settings, Menu and select "Restart".

If your Kindle Paperwhite still isn't connected, contact the person who set up your Wi-Fi network, your Internet service provider, or the manufacturer of your Wi-Fi router for assistance.
