The Wainwright Prize 2021 Longlists
Named in honour of Alfred Wainwright – the man who elevated the humble walking guide into an art-form – the Wainwright Prize celebrates the finest nature, travel and environmental writing that encourages exploration of the great British outdoors.
To reflect the growing engagement with climate change, the prize also includes a second category for writing on global conservation. The two longlists feature a varied and wonderful selection, ranging from a chronicle of farming across three generations and a former city dweller’s diary of her new life in the Suffolk countryside, to a bewitching account of the majesty of fungi and a passionate polemic from our greatest living naturalist.
The shortlists will be announced August 4 with the winners revealed early September.
