YouTubers - An Evening with Chris Stokel-Walker
Monday 20th May 17:30 - 19:30 at London - Tottenham Court Road
Waterstones TCR are delighted to welcome journalist Chris Stokel-Walker and hit YouTuber Simon Clarke to chat about Chris' new book, YouTubers.
YouTubers is the first in-depth look into the world's most popular video-sharing platform, and the creators who've leveraged that popularity to built careers, celebrity and immense wealth.
For three years Chris Stokel-Walker has interviewed more than 100 figures connected with the world s biggest video-sharing website, among them agents, managers and influencers themselves.
He charts YouTube's rise from showing a single video of a zoo to multi-billion-dollar site that outmuscles Facebook. And he delves into thorny issues about brands, burnout and authenticity. He explains why YouTubers keep stopping traffic in city centres and whether they will eat normal TV.
If you are a journalist, publicist, advertiser, or marketer who needs to know how YouTube works or a parent intrigued by what the kids are watching and why (or just fascinated by the lives of leading creators) you need this book.
Tickets are £20 including a copy of YouTubers, or £7 for event entry only.
Chris Stokel-Walker is a UK-based journalist who has written for Wired, The Guardian, The Economist, and The BBC. YouTubers is his first book.
Simon Clark is a videomaker and science communicator from Bristol, with a PhD in theoretical atmospheric physics from the University of Exeter. He began making YouTube videos to help students applying to prestigious universities in 2010, and has since built a huge following through the site through a combination of science communication and vlogging videos.
