Waterstones Guildford Book Club

Join us at 7pm on Wednesday 29th May for the Waterstones Guildford Book Club! Each month, we usually discuss the book for that month and vote on a selection of books for future sessions. We like to try a variety!

For May, for a change, we'll be discussing 2 non-fiction books (don't worry - you don't have to read both, one of them will do!):

Killing Thatcher by Rory Carroll
Without doubt, this is a gripping mix of thriller, true crime and political intrigue centred around the audacious IRA plot in 1984 to assassinate Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher at the Brighton Tory party conference. It traces the characters and events leading up to the Brighton bombing and the ensuing intense manhunt for the bombers. A breathtaking read.

Abroad in Japan by Chris Broad
Shortlisted for 2023's Waterstones Book of the Year, this is a highly readable, entertaining account of Broad's first 10 years in Japan, getting to grips with language and culture. A fun eye-opener full of wry humour.

No need to reserve your place, just come along on the day. We look forward to seeing you there!
