Find your perfect holiday reading

Tuesday 20th August 18:00 at London - Piccadilly

In partnership with Harper Voyager, we’re thrilled to host VoyagerCon: forming the second of two events during the day, hear from Voyager’s authors covering all aspects of SFF fiction.

A number of panel discussions will make up the evening:

6.00pm - Myth and Legend - S.A. Chakraborty and Rebecca Kuang discuss folklore, mythology and history. S.A. Chakraborty was inspired by Middle-Eastern myths around djinns when writing her Daevabad trilogy and Rebecca Kuang drew on Chinese history and legends in The Poppy War and The Dragon Republic.

6.45pm - Bad Ass Women - Anna Stephens and Anna Smith Spark discuss strong female characters in the genre. From witchcraft to Warcraft, sexuality and violence, Anna and Anna explore how they draw on their own experiences to create believable and representative women.

8.00pm - Escape the Dungeon! Den Patrick and Peter Newman pit the audience against monsters from fantasy worlds, past and present. Enter at your own PERIL!

S.A. Chakraborty is from New York. Her debut, The City of Brass, is the first in the Daevabad trilogy. When not reading books about Mughal miniatures and Abbasid political intrigue, she enjoys hiking and recreating medieval meals.

Rebecca F. Kuang emigrated to the United States from China. She has a BA in International History and is pursuing her graduate degree in Chinese Studies at Cambridge University. Her research focuses on Chinese military strategy, collective trauma and war memorials.

Anna Stephens is living the dream as a full-time writer. She loves all things speculative and horrifying and is a second Dan blackbelt in Shotokan Karate, and keen weightlifter and swordfighter.

ANNA SMITH SPARK has a Classics BA, History MA and English Literature PhD. Besides her novels, her work has appeared in publications including the Fortean Times. Previous jobs include fetish model and English teacher.

DEN PATRICK is the author of Erebus Sequence, and was nominated for the British Fantasy Society Award for 2015 Best Newcomer. WITCHSIGN is the first of The Ashen Torment triolgy. He lives in London with his wife and two cats.

PETER NEWMAN is the author of award-winning Vagrant Trilogy. He sometimes pretends to be a butler for Hugo Award-winning Tea and Jeopardy podcast, which he co-writes. His latest book The Ruthless was published in June, which is the second book in a new series.
