Schools are invited to join us (free of charge) online for a very special virtual event with author Ross Montgomery as he presents his heartwarming new adventure story, I am Rebel.
I am Rebel is a heart-warming adventure about the unbreakable bond between a dog and his human from a beloved and twice Costa-shortlisted author.
Recommended age: year groups 3-6
As part of this 45-minute interactive schools’ event Ross will share more about his heartwarming tale, where young dog Rebel has to go on an epic quest to save his owner from war. Ross will explore how he brings his memorable animal characters to life, share his writing tips, and challenge students to think creatively about their own pets’ voices - how their own dog might talk, what voice their cat might have and whether their hamster might be a secret action hero! Brimming with heart, adventure, friendship and bravery, this is the perfect event to ignite imaginations and a passion for storytelling.
Ross Montgomery started writing stories as a teenager, when he should have been doing homework, and continued doing so at university. His debut novel, Alex, the Dog and the Unopenable Door, was shortlisted for the Costa Children's Book of the Year and Branford Boase Award. It was also selected as one of the Sunday Times' "Top 100 Modern Children's Classics". His books have also been nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Award, while his picture book Space Tortoise was nominated for the Kate Greenaway Award and included in the Guardian's Best New Children's Books. The Midnight Guardians, Ross's first fiction novel with Walker Books, was selected as a Waterstones Children's Book of the Month and is garnering huge praise.
Waterstones Virtual Author Visits are the perfect opportunity to encourage reading for pleasure, introducing children to new books as well as fabulous author & illustrators, and to help inspire a love of reading even in the most reluctant readers. Taking part will support children’s literacy, creative writing and encourage a love of reading for pleasure.
Taking place on Zoom, this 45-minture webinar session will include a live presentation from the author, giving children the chance to hear about the authors book, characters and writing processes. There will also be a chance for children to have their questions answered live during the event!
Often pupils are very inspired to read the author’s book after the event, so we have created a special discount on I am Rebel, for school account orders. Schools can save 30% on single copy or a class set by contacting [email protected]. Copies of the book can also be purchased at £6.50 (RRP £7.99 – incl. P&P) using the ticket link between now and the event on Wednesday 10th July.
Once you register with your email address, you’ll be sent a Zoom link to the webinar. Registered schools will also receive an email including a chapter sampler and teachers’ resources that can be printed for the classroom.
