Waterstones, Online Events
Schools are invited to join us (free of charge) online for a very special virtual event with historian, broadcaster, and author Alice Robert as she presents her irresistible debut children’s novel, Wolf Road.
Recommended age: year groups 3-6
As part of this 45-minute interactive schools’ event students, teachers and librarians are invited to join anthropologist, author and broadcaster Alice Roberts on a journey into the Ice Age. Find out about the inspiration behind Wolf Road and the real archaeological discoveries that informed it, from stone tools and animal bones to painted caves and carved mammoth ivory. And discover how cutting-edge science is challenging and changing our ideas about the deep past and bringing our ancient ancestors into focus, letting us see them more clearly than ever before. Schools will also have the chance to put questions to Alice for this special event.
Professor Alice Roberts is an academic, author and broadcaster, specialising in human anatomy and evolution, archaeology, and history. In 2001, Alice made her television debut on Channel 4’s Time Team and has presented more than a hundred television programmes including The Incredible Human Journey, Origins of Us and Ice Age Giants on BBC2, Britain’s Most Historic Towns on Channel 4 and Curse of the Ancients on Sky History. She is also the presenter of the enduringly popular BBC TV series Digging for Britain.
Alice has been a Professor of Public Engagement with Science at the University of Birmingham since 2012, where she teaches human anatomy to medical students as well as championing outreach. As well as authoring the Sunday Times bestselling Ancestors, Buried and Crypt she has also written several popular science books including The Incredible Unlikeliness of Being which was shortlisted for the Wellcome Book Prize in 2015. Wolf Road is her first book for younger readers.
Wolf Road is a vast adventure with a very human heart, full of wild animals, huge scenery and heart-stopping danger and inspired by real anthropological discoveries.
Waterstones Virtual Author Visits are the perfect opportunity to encourage reading for pleasure, introducing children to new books as well as fabulous author & illustrators, and to help inspire a love of reading even in the most reluctant readers. Taking part will support children’s literacy, creative writing and encourage a love of reading for pleasure.
Taking place on Zoom, this 45-minture webinar session will include a live presentation from the author, giving children the chance to hear about the authors book, characters and writing processes. There will also be a chance for children to have their questions answered live during the event!
