Virtual Event for Children with Louie Stowell

Whether you are a school in term time or on half term – schools, children and their families are all invited to join us (free of charge) for a very special online event with Louie Stowell as she presents her fantastic book and our Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month for February, Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to Being Good.

Recommended age: suitable for 9+ and perfect for KS2, school years 5&6

Are you a fan of Norse myths? Have you ever wondered what Loki, the mischievous shape-shifter and cunning trickster god would be like if they were banished to Earth in the form of an eleven year old? Well look no further – this is the event for you! Join author and Norse myth super fan Louie Stowell to hear all about her brand-new book Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to Being Good, and discover fun tips on comic-style drawing, acting like a god, and pranking like Loki! Packed full of humour and cool facts about Norse gods. There will some live drawing so have a pen and paper at the ready!

"Forget Thor, it's Louie who really brings the thunder with this book. Action-packed, smart and very, very funny.” – Rob Biddulph

Louie Stowell started her career writing carefully researched books about space, ancient Egypt, politics and science but eventually lapsed into just making stuff up. She has written fiction for 8–12 (Nosy Crow and Walker Books US), but Loki: A Bad God's Guide to Being Good is her first project as both author and illustrator, inspired by her research into Norse myths. Louie writes (and draws) full time in London, where she lives with her wife Karen, her dog Buffy and a creepy puppet that is probably cursed.

Waterstones Virtual Author Visits are the perfect opportunity to encourage reading for pleasure, introducing children to new books as well as fabulous author & illustrators, and to help inspire a love of reading even in the most reluctant readers. Taking part will support children’s literacy, creative writing and encourage a love of reading for pleasure.

Taking place on Zoom, this 45-minture webinar session will include a live presentation from the author, giving children the chance to hear about the authors book, characters and writing processes. There will also be a chance for children to have their questions answered live during the event!

You can submit questions in advance by emailing [email protected] with the author’s name in the subject line.

Often pupils are very inspired to read the author’s book after the event, so we have created a special discount on Loki for school account orders. Schools can save 30% on single copy or a class set by contacting [email protected]. Copies of the book can also be purchased at £6.99 (RRP £7.99 – incl. P&P and entry to the event) using the ticket link below between now and Wednesday 23rd February - UK post only.

Once you register with your email address, you’ll be sent a Zoom link to the webinar. Registered schools will also receive an email including a chapter sample and activity sheets for the classroom.
