Translators’ Perspectives: The Women Writers of Italy

Tuesday 16th February 19:00 at London - Piccadilly

The publication of Elena Ferrante’s brilliant series of novels has been the catalyst for an extraordinary and developing interest in Italian fiction, the light shining especially on contemporary women writers. This evening we hope to extend that discussion further.
Chaired by Rosie Goldsmith, Director of the European Literature Network, we are joined by some of the finest Italian-English translators working today who will introduce work by key Italian authors now in translation.

Howard Curtis (“About Time” by Simona Sparacco); Katherine Gregor (whose translation of “Eva Sleeps” by Francesca Melandri is published in May); Silvester Mazzarella (“Memoirs of a Bitch” by Francesca Petrizzo, “Train to Budapest” by Dacia Marani and “Accababbadora” by Michela Murgia); Jennifer Radice “The House of Solitudes” by Fausta Gavarini, Franca Scurti Simpson (“My Mother is a River” by Donatella Di Pietrantonio); and Cristina Viti ("The World Saved By Kids" by Elsa Morante and “A Life Apart” by Mariapia Veladiano).

£5 tickets (redeemable against purchase of a book on the night) are available in-store, by telephone 020 7851 2400 or by email piccadilly@waterstones.com
