The UCL Festival of Culture - Writing Masculinities and the Body
Friday 7th June 18:30 - 20:30 at London - Tottenham Court Road
In association with University College London's Festival of Culture for 2019, Waterstones TCR are delighted to present a very special evening exploring the subject of masculinities, the body and physical culture in contemporary fiction and poetry.
Hosted by UCL English Lecturer Dr Xine Yao, the evening will include a joint reading and discussion between novelist and UCL English Lecturer Matthew Sperling and prize-winning poet (and UCL alumnus) Andrew McMillan. Both Matthew's 2018 debut novel Astroturf and Andrew's books of poetry physical (2015) and playtime (2018) explore the importance of physical culture in made identities, examining modern gym culture as a space in which the work of individual self-fashioning and social bonding are brought into an intense spotlight, and they approach in different ways the challenge of representing bodily life in writing.
Book and ticket packages start at just £9.
