Misfits and Mysteries: Ericka Waller and Samuel Burr in conversation Misfits and Mysteries: Ericka Waller and Samuel Burr in conversation

Sam Burr and Ericka Waller will be tackling a jigsaw together in store as they discuss their older characters going on new adventures, what makes a compelling mystery, and their latest books: Goodbye Birdie Greenwing and The Fellowship Of The Puzzlemakers.

"Great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget ...
Birdie Greenwing has been at a loose end ever since her beloved twin sister and husband passed away. Too proud and stubborn to admit she is lonely, Birdie’s world has shrunk. But then some new neighbours move in to the house next door.
Goodbye Birdie Greenwing celebrates relationships in all their quirky, complicated uniqueness. It is a story about the choices we make and how we justify them. About finding out who we are, not who other people think we should be."

"Sometimes finding your place in the world is the greatest puzzle of all...
Abandoned at birth on the steps of The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers, he was raised by the sharpest minds in the British Isles and finds himself amongst the last survivors of a fading institution.
When the esteemed crossword compiler, Pippa Allsbrook, passes away, she bestows her final puzzle to him: a promise to reveal the mystery of his parentage and prepare him for his future.
Yet as Clay begins to unpick the clues, he uncovers something even the Fellowship have never been able to solve - and it's a secret that will change everything..."

Ericka Waller lives in Brighton with her husband, three daughters, dogs and hairless cat. Oh and a tortoise too. Previously, she worked as a blogger and columnist. Her first novel, Dog Days, was widely praised by authors and reviewers alike. Goodbye Birdie Greenwing is her second novel.

Samuel Burr is a TV producer from London, UK, who has worked on popular factual shows including the BAFTA-nominated Secret Life of 4-Year-Olds. Samuel’s writing was selected for Penguin’s WriteNow scheme and in 2021 he graduated from the Faber Academy. He previously studied at Westminster Film School. The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers is his first novel, and will be published in 14 languages around the world.
