Meet Angie Thomas – author of The Hate U Give

Sunday 9th April 18:00 - 19:00 at The Watershed, 1 Canon's Road, Bristol, BS1 5TX

Join us for a very special evening with Angie Thomas - in partnership with Rife Magazine– author of The Hate U Give, her debut book inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement in the USA. The book tells the story of 16 year old Starr, whose life is turned upside down when she is the only witness to the shooting of her unarmed friend Khalil by a white police officer. Now what Starr says could destroy her community. It could also get her killed. Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, this is a powerful and gripping YA novel about one girl's struggle for justice.

The book is already out in the USA and has had a huge amount of buzz, receiving eight starred reviews! Movie rights have been sold to Fox 2000, with Amandla Stenberg (Rue in The Hunger Games) to star.

Angie will be in the UK for an exclusive trip to promote the book and will appear at the Watershed in Bristol in conversation with author Nikesh Shukla to discuss her path to publication, from the rough neighbourhood in Mississippi where she was raised to book and movie deals, the inspiration behind the book, and the positive messages she wants to pass on to the next generation to ensure they use their voices to enact change.
Refreshments will also be available.
