Cornelia Funke is the New York Times bestselling author of the Inkheart trilogy, The Thief Lord and a whole host of popular children’s novels and picture books. Born in Germany, her international breakthrough came with Dragon Rider, which spent 78 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. She now lives in California.
Efua Traoré is a Nigerian-German author who grew up in a small town in Nigeria. For as long as she can remember, her head was filled with little stories, but it was not until much later that she began to write them down. Efua won the 2018 Commonwealth Short Story Prize for Africa with her short story ‘True Happiness’ and she is a literature-grant-holder of the Munich Literaturreferat. Children of the Quicksands, her debut novel, won the Times/ Chicken House Fiction Competition in 2019. She lives in Munich with her family.
Jasbinder Bilan's award-winning debut novel Asha & the Spirit Bird is inspired by her close bond with her grandmother and was discovered by Chicken House after winning the Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition. Her second novel, Tamarind & the Star of Ishta, won the Indie Children’s Book Award, was longlisted for the Blue Peter Book Award, and was an Indie Book of the Month. She lives in Somerset with her husband, two teenage boys and dog Enzo, and splits her time between teaching and writing.
Aisling Fowler wishes that she had grown up in a magical, mountainous kingdom. After earning a BSc in Biology and working as a support worker and then a nurse, the idea for Fireborn came to her as she moved back and forth between London and the US. Now based in Hackney, Aisling loves cooking and plotting adventures (for herself as well as her fictional characters).
