An evening with Lex Coulton, Clare Empson and Francesca Jakobi as they discuss the writing and publishing of their debut novels.

Wednesday 19th September 19:00 - 20:30 at London - Crouch End

Come and join a conversation with three debut writers: Lex Coulton (Falling Short), Clare Empson (Him) and Francesca Jakobi (Bitter). They'll be talking the processes of writing and publishing their first novels; getting started, getting finished, getting agented and getting published.

The discussion will be lead by Lucy Morris. Lucy joined Curtis Brown in 2014 from Bloomsbury Publishing, and is actively building a list of reading group and accessible literary fiction, narrative non-fiction and memoir.

Lex Coulton has lived in north London on and off for ten years, and started writing Falling Short whilst teaching at a local secondary school. Much of the inspiration for her book came from the characters, both human and canine, whom she encountered around Crouch End and Highgate. She is now living in Crouch End with her husband and two dogs, and teaching once more at a local school.

Clare Empson worked as a national journalist for a variety of newspapers including The Times, The Sunday Telegraph, the Mail on Sunday and The Daily Express.  Eight years ago she moved to the West Country and founded the arts and lifestyle blog The idyllic setting inspired her first novel Him, which reveals the darker side of paradise.

Francesca Jakobi studied psychology at the University of Sussex, followed by a stint teaching English in Turkey and the Czech Republic. On returning to her native London she got a job as a reporter on a local paper and has worked in journalism ever since. She's currently a layout editor at the Financial Times. Bitteris her first novel, inspired by her grandmother who was sued for divorce in the 1940s.
