Laura Purcell In Conversation With Edward Cox
Monday 23rd September 19:00 at Colchester - High Street
Don't miss this evening with Laura Purcell & Edward Cox discussing their brilliant new novels. It's great to have two Colchester authors, working in different genres, who are making a name for themselves. "Bone China" will be Laura's third gothic mystery, to follow up the award winning "The Silent Companions" & critically well received "The Corset". Her new novel spans the Victorian era. Dr Pinecroft & his daughter Louise escape to the Cornish seaside after their family is ravaged by consumption. While he conducts controversial experiments on prisoners to find a cure for that disease, Louise is disconcerted by her servant's native superstitions about fairies who hunt the land for those they can steal away to their own realm. Forty years later, Hester Why arrives at Morvoren House to take up a position as nurse to the now partially paralysed and almost entirely mute Miss Pinecroft. Hester has fled to Cornwall to try and escape her past, but surrounded by superstitious staff enacting bizarre rituals, she soon discovers that her new home may be just as dangerous as her last...
The Relic Guild Trilogy by Edward Cox was nominated for British Fantasy Society Best Debut award. That was a complex story set in the aftermath of The Magic War which earned praise for offering a way forward for fantasy fiction. In Edward's new novel, The Song of the Sycamore, he creates a world on the brink of destruction called Urdezha. Wendal Finn is a casualty of the endless war between city-dwellers and clansfolk fought out in a hostile wasteland until an ancient entity called The Sycamore takes possession of him and brings him back to his home city of Old Castle. The legend has it that The Sycamore must avenge all victims of murder and there is plenty of work for it a place like Old Castle. With clansfolk massing and a supernatural storm raging across the wasteland towards Wendal's home, will the dark and murderous entity be the only thing that can prevent complete oblivion?
