Jonathan Escoffery In Conversation With Alexander Chee

Join us in welcoming Booker-shortlisted author Jonathan Escoffery to Trafalgar Square, in conversation with Alexander Chee, to discuss Jonathan's searching and humane novel-in-stories If I Survive You

The thrilling linked stories in Escoffery's debut follow a Jamaican family in Miami navigating recession, racism and Hurricane Andrew. Pulsing with inimitable style, heart and barbed humour, while unraveling what it means to carve out an existence between cultures, homes and paychecks, If I Survive You announces Escoffery as a chronicler of life at its most gruesome and hopeful.

Jonathan Escoffery is a Jamaican-American writer. His debut novel, If I Survive You, was longlisted for the 2022 National Book Award for Fiction and shortlisted for the 2023 Booker Prize, among other honors. In 2023 Jonathan was named among the 36 Forces Shaping The Cultural Conversation by Harpaar's Bazaar.

Alexander Chee is the author of novels Edinburgh and The Queen Of The Night, and the essay collection How To Write An Autobiographical Novel. He is a winner of a 2021 United States Artists Fellowship, a Whiting Award and a NEA Fellowship in Prose. A contributing editor at the New Republic and an editor at large at VQR, he teaches as a Professor of Creative Writing at Dartmouth College.
