Mark Doty was the first American to win the TS Eliot prize, and has been shortlisted twice since, most recently for Deep Lane. Prizes in the USA include the National Book Award and the National Book Critics’ Circle Award His writing, in poetry and memoir, became some of the definitive literature of the Aids era.  “A poet of glow” – Ruth Padel
