Good Sex Writing Night
Friday 2nd December 2016
18:30 at Waterstones, London - Gower Street
Every December the Literary Review’s Bad Sex Award honours ‘an author who has produced an outstandingly bad sex scene in an otherwise good novel’. From Morissey’s ‘bulbous salutations’ and barrel-rolling breasts to Murakami's ‘freshly-made vaginas’, year after year, we find ourselves sniggering over the entries.
Arguably, though, good sex in literary fiction is far rarer than bad sex. So shouldn’t we be talking about that, instead?
Join literary critic Lucy Scholes in conversation with Katherine Angel (Unmastered), Peter Hobbs (Sex & Death), Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Olen-Butler and Joanna Walsh (Grow A Pair, Hotel, Fractals) as they discuss the joys and difficulties of reading and writing sex, from their own experiences to the authors who they feel do it especially well.
Tickets include wine and are redeemable against books purchased on the night. Available in store, online, by phoning 0207 636 1577 or by email [email protected]
