From The Corner of the Oval Office: One Woman’s Accidental Career in the Obama White House with Beck Dorey-Stein

Tuesday 18th September 18:30 at London - Gower Street

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to fly in a plane with Barack and dance on the beach with Michelle, From the Corner of the Oval Office is the book for you. Add in an illicit and ill-advised affair with a very senior White House staffer, lots of vodka cocktails, and an incredibly demanding work schedule and you’ll be close to describing Beck Dorey-Stein’s five years in the Oval Office.

Beck Dorey-Stein on September 18th as she speaks to journalist, broadcaster and host of The Emma Guns Show, Emma Guns about her tell-all account of what it’s like to be close to the president.

More About The Book

In 2012, Beck Dorey-Stein was just scraping by in Washington DC when a posting on Craigslist landed her, improbably, in the Oval Office as one of Barack Obama’s stenographers. The ultimate DC outsider, she joined the elite team who accompanied the president wherever he went, recorder and mic in hand. Beck forged friendships with a tight group of fellow travellers - young men and women who, like her, left their real lives behind to hop aboard Air Force One in service of the president.

During her five years at the Oval Office, Beck was a regular treadmill buddy of the President himself in countries as far flung as Vietnam and Cuba, and watched on as he delivered speeches after the Sandy Hook and Pulse nightclub shootings. Set against the backdrop of a White House full of drama and intrigue, this is the story of a young woman making unlikely friendships, getting her heart broken, learning what truly matters and discovering her voice in the process.
