Fantasy Worlds in YA: Kalynn Bayron, Ciannon Smart and Namina Forna in conversation with Sarah Shaffi

Wednesday 7th July 2021
19:30 at Waterstones, Online Events

Join us online for an event with three brilliant YA authors,
Kalynn Bayron, Ciannon Smart and Namina Forna as they talk about their amazing new books, This Poison Heart, Witches Steeped in Gold and The Gilded Ones.

In conversation with Sarah Shaffi, each author will discuss their books, writing processes, upcoming projects and the world of fantasy in YA fiction, and you’ll event get the chance to put your own questions to these three astounding writers at the special event.

Kalynn Bayron is the bestselling author of Cinderella is Dead. She is a classically trained vocalist and when she’s not writing you can find her listening to Ella Fitzgerald on loop, attending the theatre, watching scary movies, and spending time with her kids. She currently lives in San Antonio, Texas with her family.

Ciannon Smart is of Jamaican heritage and grew up in a small town in the south-east of England. As the only daughter in a house full if boisterous sons, she developed a voracious appetite for reading from an early age, preferring anarchy in stories rather than in real life. In YA she loves her heroines exactly as she loves her villains: wilful, wily, and unpredictable.

Namina Forna is a young adult novelist based in Los Angeles, and the author of the epic fantasy YA novel The Gilded Ones. Originally from Sierra Leone, West Africa, she moved to the US when she was nine and has been traveling back and forth ever since. Namina loves building fantastical worlds and telling stories with fierce female leads.

Sarah Shaffi is a journalist, editor and interviewer, among many other things, with more than a decade of experience working at newspapers, magazines and websites. As a freelance writer, Sarah has written for Stylist, Phoenix,, The New Arab and more. She specialises in books, but also writes about politics, race and pop culture (and the intersection of all three). Sarah has also been a judge for a number of literary prizes, including the Jhalak Prize for Best Book for a Writer of Colour.
