Debut Authors Spring Edition Debut Authors Spring Edition

Our Debut Authors event returns in a fresher, more sunnier guise this March with two shining lights of the UEA!

Naomi Ishiguro's debut short story collection Escape Routes explores a series of characters in varying states of leaving or wishing to escape, blended together with a heady mixture of whimsy and magic. Drawing praise from stars such as Neil Gaiman and having been compared to David Mitchell in their inventiveness, these are stories to escape through...

Deepa Anappara's debut novel Djinn Patrol on the Purple Line views the dizzying bustle and danger of comtemporary urban India from the perspective of a winning child narrator, as he investigates the case of a missing child, armed with all the investigative skills he's learnt from his favourite tv cop show. Vivid and moving, Djinn Patrol has been described as "storytelling at its best" by Anne Enright and as "a brilliant debut" by Ian McEwan.

Our chair will be Andrew Cowan, Professor of Creative Writing at the UEA and recipient of several literary awards. His most recent novel is Your Fault, which has recieved glowing praise from reviewers such as Margaret Atwood.
