Celebrate 25 magical years of Harry Potter with Jonny Duddle and Thomas Taylor

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling was first published on 26th June 1997 – the unforgettable first novel that set Harry Potter’s destiny in motion. Join us on the 25th anniversary to celebrate the beginning of the magical wizarding world with Jonny Duddle and Thomas Taylor, two of Harry’s award winning illustrators. Jonny and Thomas will be in conversation with illustrator Rachel Suzanne.

In celebration of 25 years of Harry Potter magic, Bloomsbury is proud to be releasing a glorious silver anniversary hardback limited edition of J.K. Rowling’s classic first story, featuring the original, iconic 1997 cover illustration by Thomas Taylor of Harry Potter with his lightning bolt scar, standing next to the Hogwarts Express on Platform Nine and Three-Quarters. That artwork would go on to become one of the most iconic book covers of the twentieth century.

Thomas Taylor is an award-winning author-illustrator for children. He illustrated the cover for the very first Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and has since gone on to write and illustrate several picture books and young novels including the Eerie-on-Sea Mysteries and Scarlett Hart: Monster Hunter, written by Marcus Sedgwick.

Jonny Duddle is a Welsh illustrator and writer who created the art for 2014 children's editions of the Bloomsbury Harry Potter books. Jonny eventually ended up designing characters for computer games. Whilst working as a freelance games artist, he wrote a picture book about a sea monster called The Pirate Cruncher and did all the pictures too, which was published by Templar in 2009.

Rachel Suzanne is a Ravenclaw and a Harry Potter superfan. She graduated from Birmingham City University with a First class honours in Visual Communication, specialising in illustration. She enjoys creating work through the process of crossing traditional printmaking, digital processes and experimental collage. Her work has been broad from music illustration including designing West End actor Hadley Fraser's debut album cover, to boyswear t-shirt design. She is currently focusing her work on contemporary children's book illustration (including Rochelle Humes’ The Mega Magic Hair Swap) as she loves to tell stories, visualise characters and experiment with media. @mischief_marauder / @rsillustrations
