An Evening with Tracy Chevalier SOLD OUT
Tuesday 15th October 18:30 at Winchester - High Street
In conversation with the author of Girl With A Pearl Earring about her new novel A Single Thread.
1932. After the Great War took both her beloved brother and her fiancé, Violet Speedwell has become a "surplus woman," one of a generation doomed to a life of spinsterhood after the war killed so many young men.
Set in Winchester, A Single Thread's main focus is on the Broderers, the women who embroidered the kneelers still in use at the Cathedral. As is usual with Ms Chevalier's broad canvas approach the novel deals not only with the after effects of the First World War on women's lives but the rise of fascism... and bell-ringers.
