An evening with John Connolly at the Panopticon Theatre

Tuesday 12th September 19:30 at Brittania Panopticon Glasgow Theatre, 113-117 Trongate, Glasgow, G1 5HD

Stan Laurel: who was 'he'?

An extraordinary reimagining of the life of one of the greatest screen comedians the world has ever known: a man who knew both adoration and humiliation; who loved, and was loved in turn; who betrayed, and was betrayed; who never sought to cause pain to others, yet left a trail of affairs and broken marriages in his wake . . .

he is Stan Laurel.
But he did not really exist. Stan Laurel was a fiction.

John will be speaking at the Brittania Panopticon Music Hall, where Stan Laurel started out his career, about his amazing new novel 'he' and will be taking questions afterwards.

Tickets are £4 (or £3 with a Waterstones Loyalty Card) and can be purchased through the online link.

The Panopticon will be showing a selection of Stan Laurel's films projected onto the very stage where Stan Laurel first performed, and then John will give a presentation followed by a Q&A.

The Panopticon have kindly arranged a bespoke selection of Scottish Gins for the evening provided by Boë Gin.

Brittania Panopticon Music Hall

Deep in the heart of old Glasgow lies a hidden secret: the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall - the oldest surviving music hall in the world.

It opened as the Britannia in the late 1850s to entertain the working folk of the factories, mills and shipyards, and it saw many greats of the music hall and early cinema grace the stage, most famously Stan Laurel, who made his debut in 1906.

Although the music hall closed in 1938, it was reopened in 2003 by the Friends of Britannia Panopticon Music Hall Trust and is an ongoing conservation project and a rare example of an intact surviving Victorian music hall.

Boë Superior Gin is lovingly created in small batches under the watchful eye of our Master Distiller, where rare hand-picked botanicals and spices are infused in the finest neutral grain spirit, liberating the full flavours of triple filtered Boë Superior Gin, creating a high class gin, characteristically citrus with extraordinary balance and smoothness. Boë Superior Gin has recently been joined by Boë Violet Gin, Boë Peach & Hibiscus Gin Liqueur and Boë Scottish Bramble Gin Liqueur.

Waterstones and the Friends of Britannia Panopticon would like to thank Boë Gin for sponsoring the launch of John Connolly’s new book 'he' at the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall, Glasgow.
