An Evening with James Holland
Wednesday 4th October 2023
18:30 - 20:30 at
Waterstones, Nottingham

The acclaimed historian and bestselling author of Sicily '43 and Brothers in Arms delivers a propulsive, exhaustively researched account of the Allied invasion of Italy that brings every sound, smell and heartstopping moment of this vital World War II campaign to life.
World War at ground level, but this version telling brings the story vividly to life like never before. Weaving together a wealth of letters, diaries, and other incredible documents, Holland traces the battles as they were fought - across plains, over mountains, through shattered villages and cities, in intense heat and, towards the end, frigid cold and relentless rain - putting readers at the heart of the action to create an entirely fresh and revealing telling of this most pivotal phase of the war.
Holland will give a talk about his new book, The Savage Storm, followed by the opportunity to ask questions and get your books signed.
James Holland is a British historian, novelist and broadcaster. He specialises in the military encounters of World War II.
The younger brother of Tom Holland, a writer on ancient history, James Holland published his first non-fiction work, Fortress Malta: An Island Under Siege, 1940-1943, in 2003. He has since produced numerous books on different theatres of the conflict, from Italy’s Sorrow: A Year of War, 1944-1945 to The Battle of Britain: Five Months That Changed History, which have drawn plaudits for their humanity, as well as contributing military titles to the Ladybird Expert series.
