An Evening With Imran Mahmood & Erin Kelly

Monday 10th July 18:30 at Liverpool

Join us for an evening in the company of two criminally good authors - Imran Mahmood & Erin Kelly. Imran is a leading criminal defence barrister, originally from Liverpool, whose debut novel "You Don't Know Me" has been described as "electrifying" and is inspired by his work on real life cases.  Erin's latest novel He Said/She Said is a Sunday Times top ten bestseller and the suspense novel Waterstones booksellers are tipping as the next big thing in domestic noir.

"You Don't Know Me" - An unnamed defendant stands accused of murder. Just before the Closing Speeches, the young man sacks his lawyer, and decides to give his own defence speech. He tells us that his barrister told him to leave some things out. Sometimes, the truth can be too difficult to explain, or believe. But he thinks that if he's going to go down for life, he might as well go down telling the truth. There are eight pieces of evidence against him. As he talks us through them one by one, his life is in our hands. We, the reader - member of the jury - must keep an open mind till we hear the end of his story. His defence raises many questions...but at the end of the speeches, only one matters: Did he do it?

"He Said, She Said" -

"There’s only so far you can get when you’re holding on to a secret like mine. The psychotherapists always say that the sessions are confidential, like their Ikea couch is a sacred confessional. But my confession is a broken law, and I can’t trust anyone with it. There is no statute of limitations for what I did in this country, and none in my heart."

In the hushed aftermath of a total eclipse, Laura witnesses a brutal attack.

She and her boyfriend Kit call the police, and in that moment, four lives change forever. Fifteen years on, Laura and Kit live in fear. And while Laura knows she was right to speak out, she also knows that you can never see the whole picture: something is always hidden... something she never could have guessed.

Join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening in the company of two exciting new voices in crime fiction.
