Our Bookshops Are Reopening

Following the government roadmap toward the end of lockdown, we are absolutely thrilled to confirm that our bookshops across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are now open. The safety of our customers and staff continues to be paramount – see below for guidance toward browsing in safety, together with links to our opening hours, ordering via Click & Collect, and a special taste of the incredible publishing we have in store.

When will Waterstones reopen?

Our shops across England and Wales reopened on Monday 12 April, followed by our branches in Scotland on Monday 26 April and in Northern Ireland on Friday 30 April. These bookshops join our branches in Jersey, Amsterdam and Brussels who are now trading normally too. ROI shops are due to reopen on Monday 17 May.

Are you changing your opening hours after you reopen?

Our trading hours will largely be returning to normal. Please consult our shop finder for details of your local Waterstones’ trading hours.

Are we allowed to enter your bookshops or can we only collect purchases?

For England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland we are very happy to say you can browse and shop as normal from Friday 30 April. Our Health & Safety measures will however continue to be in place, with an expectation customers will wear face masks, use our provided hand sanitisers on entry and observe social distancing throughout. Our key priority is the safety of both customers and staff.

Will you accept cash?

Our bookshops will accept cash, but we far prefer contactless payment as it minimises potential virus contact.

When can I place a Click & Collect order or pick up from shop order?

Click and Collect services are now available across all our shops in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. These services will hopefully resume in ROI on Monday 17 May.

Will I be able to collect my Direct to Shop delivery now shops have re-opened?

Yes, in our shops in England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland.

Can I return an item purchased in shop before Christmas?

We have a 35-day returns window from reopening for items purchased prior to Christmas. So long as the item is presented with a valid receipt or Dispatch Note, we will be happy to refund to your original payment method. Please note that Waterstones Gift Cards purchased in our shops are not refundable.

For items presented for exchange, the item should be in resellable condition, in the original packaging, and still currently stocked. If these conditions are met, we will credit against another purchase without quibble.

Can I change my order to be delivered for shop collection?

Once an order is made, unfortunately it is not possible to amend its destination. We advise cancelling your order, making another with the correct destination, and contacting our Customer Support team.

An exemption to this are exclusive and signed editions where stock has sold out. In this instance please contact our Customer Support team.

When will your Cafés reopen?

We are awaiting guidance from our respective governments around the potential return of hospitality and will post news to Waterstones.com’s help pages as soon as national positions are confirmed.

Are your bookshops’ customer restroom facilities open?

All our shop's toilets and washrooms will remain closed until our Cafés reopen, and then only toilets directly supporting a shop's Café will return to service. All other facilities will remain closed.
