World Score Dream publishes a media sketchbook by Nicholas James in the collection of Cv/VAR archive. Beginning with split second scans of TV transmissions in 1976, the series progressed with daily news composites to carbon trace collages, dropping a probe of art into the vast pool of networked communications. The drawings are light and elusive, read slant-wise across images, texts and borders, like blind drawing with unpredictable results. From xerox collages of tabloid headlines the studies moved through the arena of the Falklands War to catch the corporate ethos of the 1980s. Resumed in 2003 a random trawl of magazines scans the popular arenas of gossip, fashion, sport, game shows, celebrities, with the interruption of crises and episodes of loss; elements of a template for the general culture.
