In this commemorative publication of the exhibition 'View of Delftware' in the Gemeentemusuem Den Haag, a number of themes give the reader an intriguing overview of the history of Delftware spanning four centuries. Starting with the first blue and white Delft, which resulted from Chinese imports at the beginning of the 17th-Century, right up until the Delftware 2000, the book shows how current artists are inspired by the long history of Delftware. Using, amongst others, a shop's inventory, the house of a prolific collector and more than 235 pieces of Delftware originating from nine different factories, the history of this Dutch national product is presented in a nutshell. Ranging from the blue white to the most colourful of Delft, from the simple plates to tulip vases that stimulate our fantasy, even the children's character Miffy has been put on Delftware. Text in English and Dutch.
