Struggling against separation, they were eventually parted. Told from the younger sister's point of view, the narrative follows them home where they were twice bombed before being re-evacuated. Idyllic Wales turned into a nightmare when the girls were sent to live in squalor with a farming family who viewed them merely as cheap labour. Moral danger and family bereavement followed before these unsung victims of Hitler finally discovered which of their siblings survived the conflict.
