The government's budget for civil space expenditure in 2003/4 is [pound]178.2 million and has clear scientific, commercial and social objectives. Activities are delivered through a number of bodies but coordinated through the British National Space Centre (BNSC). This report examines the BNSC partnership model to see if it is the best way to manage the programme; whether BNSC has a clear strategy and is able to assess performance; and whether it provides the best possible support to the space industry. It highlights the strengths of the UK space activities but also highlights some areas where the coordination of these activities could be strengthened.
