John Buchan's The Thirty-Nine Steps is arguably one of the best mystery and spy novels ever written. The story of Richard Hannay and his adversaries, and how his life was transformed by accident into a new generation of spies, continues to enchant as well as excite. It provides a special insight into an England at the start of World War I.

“Would you like some action with your tea sir?”

Went for a quick caper and it was indeed very quick. The ending seemed to have been wrapped up in less than 2 pages. All in all it was a very stiff upper lip affair where even the baddies are polite.

“Fantastic!”

Great writing, kept me in suspense throughout. This book is the trend setter for many spy novels that followed, highly recommended.
