This is a biography of the founder of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in England, Cornelia Peacock Connelly (1809-1879). Originally a wealthy Philadelphia Presbyterian, then an Episcopalian, and the mother of five children, Connelly's spirituality was expressed through her charism. The book analyzes the life and work of this American woman, who was abandoned and subsequently vilified by her husband Pierce (who had become a Roman Catholic priest and had kidnapped their children), but who went on to find the energy to found a religious order.
