Classic crime, at its very best.

With a new introduction by Gyles Brandreth.

The Red House is a country residence far removed from the world of the Hundred Acre Wood but its story has much of the same charm and wit. There is, of course, a murder, and when the local police fail to solve the crime, an amateur sleuth readily steps in. What follows is a delightful whodunnit with humour, excitement and a suitably surprising twist at the end.

A. A. Milne loved detective stories and pays homage to Sherlock Holmes in his detective - the clever and charismatic Anthony Gillingham- and his assistant, Bill Beverley. This is classic crime at its very best.

“Good mystery”

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's a golden age mystery from an author more known for his children's books than his other work, which is a shame as this is a lot of fun. The plot is a standard country... More

“A treasure”

A stonking good mystery, with added humour. I really enjoyed this book and didn't want it to end: what a shame there weren't more

“A classic among classics”

The phrase "a classic" tends to be bandied around with great regularity when referring to murder mysteries of the 1920s and while many works are indeed classics, no work is more worthy of the title than The... More
